Visitors to McHenry Museum delve into Modesto's past through the numerous permanent and visiting exhibits the museum has to offer. Permanent exhibits include a recreated blacksmith shop, general store and dental office; an array of mining tools and equipment; as well as firefighting equipment and a display of Stanislaus County cattle brands. Art lovers will enjoy the collection of old west themed oil paintings created by artist Virgil W. West. The museum stands downtown, five blocks from the Modesto Arch and across the street from the historic McHenry Mansion.
