The Art Deco State Theatre opened as a film house in 1934 and now serves Modesto as a luxurious cinema and performance art venue. Carefully renovated in 2005, the theater features a state-of-the-art sound system and refurbished seating, as well as a renovated, Art Deco lobby with a newly designed lounge. The theater's signature gold leaf murals have been meticulously restored to their original luster and the original horizontal marquee remains in place as well. The State Theatre is located downtown, just blocks from Modesto's Gallo Center For The Arts.
